Artist's Comments

My second large scale non-abstract project. The first being When... almost a year ago.

I created this using a mixture of 3D and painting, so I guess that makes it a matte painting. To see the base render I started with click here. Everything else was painted without any use of reference.

This took me ages to do. Much longer then it should have, but I'm new to this so I guess I can excuse myself of that for now. I'd say it would have had to be somewhere between 30 and 40 hours.

I wanted to capture a subtle, magical feeling in this. I think I succeeded but I'm not entirely sure. I'm eager to hear your opinions on this work. :)

I do hope you enjoy.

 to `snowmask for a little help at the end aswell.

Dude this is awesome. I told you when you showed me. I love how it looks like you did this with mixed-media. Like oils, pastels, colour pencils. The green leaves look like fucking dabbed-on paint. The texture is awesome. It's a beautiful illustration, like something you would see out of a book. Nice touch of DOF of the roots creeping forward to the trees, too. The mushrooms and the wee little big add a nice touch of interest and colour. Looks like a lot of time and effort went into this [whether it's true or not]. Altogether - rad.

Take it easy bro.

This is stunning. Even the render looks like it has been painted. Really nice work mate. :+fav:

You still amaze me whenever you submit something you know.

The transformation of the piece is awesome. I love how the focus of the piece seem to be where you can't see (where the white light is coming from) and the part closest to the viewer (the bottom of the piece) is a little blurred out. I do feel a subtle, magical feeling to this. Grats, you succeeded ;P

I know I told you when you showed me this, but I'll say it again: amazing. :] Everything is so well detailed. Almost magical. The only thing I recent is that you didn't use the name I suggested. :'[

ROFL... I'm kidding. It's a great work of art Simon, keep it up. :]
