She felt her flesh go cold with dread. "They're coming, aren't they?"
  He nodded. "The entire force"
She stared dumbfounded. After all her efforts, she was the one who had been tricked. The Emporer had never attacked at night before. Her forces were split and there was no time to bring them back together to face the enemy troops that were bearing down on their position. Outnumbered atleast twenty to one, there was no way her force would survive if they stayed where they were.
"We have to get everyone up through the pass." She said, looking out at the last dwindling light of sunset.
"There's no time," The general pointed out, "The order will be on us before we can get everyone through."
"We could try to slow them down." Said the wizard, "It's our only chance." The other nodded his agreement.
She considered her options, or lack thereof. The prospect of the onslaught of hundreds of thousands upon hundreds of thousands of enemy troops storming in from the darkness was bloodcurdling.
"We're going to have to try." She said, "General, get everyone moving as quickly as possible." She looked over at the two wizards, their faces set in stoney determination. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yes, it's our only chance to get everyone through."
  "What will you do?"
His face broke into a grim, cunning grin. " Nothing fancy, this time. No clever devious tricks, like they no doubt expect. This time, we'll give them a good old-fashioned firefight."
She nodded. "Wizard's fire it is then. You'd better get ready."
They each gave her a small smile as they swifly left the command tent.

______________

This painting is based on a scene from one of Terry Goodkind's books, Faith of the Fallen from the series The Sword of Truth. It is not true to the book, and is not an accurate representation of the battle, because, mainly due to lack of skill, I did not incorporate the main aspect of the battle. The main desperate measure they took to push the enemy back. I guess you'll just have to buy the books to find out what actually happened. ;)

Some of the text above is taken from the book, but most is written by me to make it work with the slightly different situation. The idea and name for Wizard's fire is all from the book. So credits go to Terry Goodkind for all of that.

I guess this can be called fan art, but I feel since it's from a book and I had to design the whole scene mostly from my head, it's independent enough to not be placed under that catagory.

This is the most difficult project I've done so far. Really kinda jumped in the deep end with this, and I'm not sure if I pulled it off. Quite a few major scale issues, composition is a little bland, colours are a bit monotone, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless.
I don't know how long this took me exactly, but it was a long time, I can tell you that much.

Also once again, thanks goes to *adonihs for help

Original size 6000x3000

Also, being a dark image, it's best viewed in a dark room.

Edit: Upadated the image with some alterations thanks to *adonihs

Thanks so much to *adonihs for suggesting and +ekud for putting this up for DD! Really makes me happy. :D

I'm in the middle of Wizard's First Rule and it's really awesome.

Not as awesome as this picture though. Great use of light and color!
